In the north of Ukraine, an FSB agent was detained who secretly photographed the locations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, fortifications, checkpoints and anti-aircraft missile systems to provide intelligence information to the Russian occupiers.

SBU counterintelligence foiled an aggressor's attempt to obtain the coordinates of the Defense Forces in the border areas of Chernihiv region. Law enforcement officers detained an FSB agent who was looking for "weaknesses" in the defense line in northern Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of the SBU, according to UNN.

As a result of the special operation, an FSB agent was detained who was tracking the location of fortified areas and checkpoints that ensure the defense of Ukraine's northern borders. He was also trying to identify the approximate locations of Ukrainian air defense missile systems,

Details

It is noted that in order to collect intelligence, the defendant cycled around the area and secretly photographed the locations of the Defense Forces. He was supposed to pass the information to the occupiers via a messenger in the form of georeferenced media files.

The SBU officers were proactive - they detained the Russian agent in advance and thus prevented the transfer of intelligence to the aggressor.

According to the investigation, the detainee is a local utility worker who was remotely recruited by an officer of the Russian Federal Security Service's border guard department in Bryansk region. His identity has already been established by the Security Service. The traitor came to the attention of the occupiers at the end of 2023 due to his anti-Ukrainian posts in pro-Kremlin Telegram channels. He was later involved in reconnaissance and subversive activities in favor of the FSB.

During the search of the suspect's residence, the SBU seized mobile phones, computer equipment and other material evidence of criminal activity.

The SBU investigators served him a notice of suspicion under Part 2 Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). The offender is currently in custody. He faces life imprisonment.
