The President of the French Republic reportedly addressed the issue of the war in Ukraine, which, according to him, is "the main threat to European security." "An indispensable condition for our security is that Russia does not win the aggressive war it is waging against Ukraine," Macron said.
The French president also again admitted that he had "once again introduced strategic ambiguity" by mentioning in February the possible deployment of allied troops to Ukraine. "We are facing an unstoppable force that has attacked a European country (...) and that no longer wants to tell us what its limits are," he continued, adding, "Why should we have to say every morning what all our limits are?"
In this context, Macron wants to "ensure (...) the reliable defense of the European continent". "That is why, in the coming months, I will invite our partners to develop this European defense initiative, which must first of all become a strategic concept," he said.
