The total damage caused to the Chornobyl NPP during the occupation reaches UAH 3 billion. This amount includes the cost of demining the territory around the Chornobyl NPP occupied by the occupiers. The Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Ruslan Strilets said this during a telethon, according to a correspondent of UNN.

Details

The total damage to the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone as a result of the occupation amounts to UAH 3 billion. This includes the funds needed to demine the Chornobyl site.

In the first days after the de-occupation of the plant, we started an inventory of the plant to determine the damage caused by the occupiers, including destroyed machinery, stolen or destroyed equipment. The total losses amount to almost UAH 3 billion. This is a huge amount, given that the Nazis had been at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant for only a month. These funds are also needed to clear the area of mines, as most of the zone is still mined today

- He said.

The minister added that Ukraine has signed an agreement with the EBRD to partially finance the restoration of the plant, and many countries among Ukraine's international partners have agreed to set up a special account. As of today, the account has accumulated $14 million, which has been collected from 19 contributing countries. The largest donors are the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Canada, and Norway. Norway's contribution is the second largest after the EU. Ukraine will be able to use these funds after the agreement is ratified by the parliament.

According to the minister, the fund will be used to restore lost equipment, improve conditions for employees, and purchase firefighting equipment and forest fire prevention systems to prevent damage to the ecosystem.
