The Verkhovna Rada voted in the first reading in favor of a bill that introduces basic general military training by teaching the subject "Defense of the Fatherland" to high school and vocational school students.

The Verkhovna Rada voted in the first reading for a bill that improves the system of initial general military training. The document provides for the teaching of the subject "Defense of Ukraine" for high school students and students of vocational schools. UNN reports this with reference to MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak and  draft law No. 11092.

Details

According to , the draft lawenvisages the introduction of initial general military training, which is carried out "in order to form primary general military knowledge and special competencies in defense awareness among citizens, to familiarize citizens with the place and role of a citizen in connection with the awareness of their duty to the armed defense of Ukraine.

Such training will be conducted in general secondary, vocational, pre-university and higher education institutions for high school students and students of vocational schools, through the teaching of the subject "Defense of Ukraine" and the implementation of measures aimed at military and patriotic education.

Curricula for the subject "Defense of Ukraine" will be developed and approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, in coordination with the Ministry of Defense.
