Pope Francis urged pilgrims to pray for peace in war-torn Ukraine and the Middle East, deploring the deaths of young soldiers and the suffering caused by the conflicts.

At the end of the general audience on April 24, Pope Francis addressed thousands of pilgrims gathered in St. Peter's Square with a greeting, mentioning Ukraine. This was reported by Vatican News, according to UNN.

Details

War is always a defeat, and only arms manufacturers profit from it. Please pray for peace, for the exhausted, long-suffering Ukraine; many young soldiers are going to die. Let us also pray for the Middle East, for Gaza, where the war is causing great pain. Let us pray for peace between Palestine and Israel, so that they may become two free, good-neighborly states. Let us pray for peace!

- The Pope said.

In an address to Polish pilgrims and their compatriots, the Pope reminded them that next Saturday marks the tenth anniversary of the canonization of John Paul II.

Looking at his life, we see what a person can achieve when he accepts and develops God's gifts of faith, hope, and merciful love. Remain faithful to his legacy. Speak out in defense of life and do not be deceived by the culture of death. Through his intercession, let us ask God for the gift of peace for which this Pope has worked so hard. I bless you from the bottom of my heart!
