The European Commission has allocated an additional 10 million euros to support Ukrainian scientists who were forced to leave the country because of the Russian war. This was announced on Thursday, April 18, by the press service of the European Commission, UNN reports.
The Commission has replenished the budget of the MSCA4Ukraine initiative, created to support researchers who have been forced to leave Ukraine, by another €10 million. This program, established under the Marie Słodowska-Curie (MSCA) program, has been supporting displaced researchers since the beginning of Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine
As noted, the additional funding will allow at least 50 more researchers who were forced to leave Ukraine to continue their work on their projects at universities, companies, research centers, and other institutions located in the EU and countries associated with the Horizon Europe program.
It will also enable researchers to access training, professional development, and career opportunities.
It is also stated that special support will be provided to organizations that host researchers and those fellows who move with their families.

Since its launch, the MSCA4Ukraine Fellowship Program has supported 125 displaced researchers from Ukraine who are studying and working in 21 countries. Current fellows are working on topics such as investigating war crimes in Ukraine or addressing the mental health needs of displaced Ukrainian women.
The next MSCA4Ukraine call for proposals is expected to be announced in May 2024, enabling the selected researchers to start their fellowships by early 2025.

MSCA4Ukraine is part of the EU's response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. It was first launched in September 2022 with an initial budget of €25 million under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie program, part of Horizon Europe.
The MSCA4Ukraine competition is open to Ukrainian citizens, stateless persons and third-country nationals who resided in Ukraine as of February 24, 2022 and are displaced as of that date.
