This year Ukraine switches to daylight saving time on March 31. The Ministry of Economy explained the reasons, UNN writes.

"On March 31, Ukraine switches to daylight saving time - at 3 (three) o'clock Kyiv time, the clock is set forward one (1) hour," the ministry reminded.

According to the Ministry of Economy, daylight saving time is changed in accordance with a government decree of 1996. Every year on the last Sunday of March at 3 o'clock the clock is set back 1 hour, and on the last Sunday of October at 4 o'clock it is set back 1 hour.

"The time in force in Ukraine in winter is natural for the territory of our country and corresponds to its geographical location, and in the period from the last Sunday of March to the last Sunday of October, daylight saving time is introduced to effectively use the daylight hours," the agency explained.

The introduction of daylight saving time, as noted, is a common international practice. The European Union has a Directive of 2001 on daylight saving time, according to which EU member states have introduced a time calculation procedure on their territories: daylight saving time from the end of March and winter time from the end of October.
