Ukrainian literature is experiencing a new upsurge: new writers and new works are emerging, and we are reading, discussing, and quoting them.17 % of Ukrainians have started reading twice as much as in 2020 , and 54% are choosing books in Ukrainian.

The cultural ministry noted that Ukraine had lost at least fifty writers and translators because of the war.

"Russia is taking the lives of civilians and soldiers, including artists. ...  Among them is the soldier and poet Maksym "Dali" Kryvtsov, author of Poems from the Loophole, recognized as one of the best Ukrainian books of 2023 by PEN Ukraine. He died on January 7, 2024, at the front. On July 1, 2023, the writer Victoria Amelina died due to an incompatible injury as a result of an enemy rocket attack on Kramatorsk on June 27, 2023.

The cultural ministry emphasized that in such dark times it is especially important to read and know contemporary artists. It is also important to talk about their work and share it with others.
