Pentagon Secretary Lloyd Austin had a phone conversation with Romanian Minister of National Defense Angel Tilvar. The parties discussed Russia's invasion of Ukraine and further coordination of security assistance to Ukraine. Austin also recognized Romania's position as an anchor of stability on NATO's eastern flank and thanked Bucharest for continuing to host U.S. and allied forces
They also discussed further coordination of military assistance to Ukraine through the Ukraine Defense Contact Group and future bilateral meetings.
Military support for Ukrainian defenders under the new package will be sent as soon as possible. This was stated on Thursday, April 25, by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Charles C. Brown.
