Details

The protest, organized by the non-governmental sector and youth movements, was joined by representatives of the opposition, civic activists, and ordinary citizens.

After the organizers and leaders of the rally had finished speaking, the participants headed towards the parliament and surrounded the building with a symbolic human chain. Meanwhile, law enforcement officers called on the participants to maintain order.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs officers have been mobilized in connection with the ongoing rally on Rustaveli Avenue and are protecting the safety of citizens. We urge the organizers and participants of the rally to stay within the limits of the freedom of assembly and expression allowed by law and to protect public order

At the same time, the ruling Georgian Dream party, which promotes the controversial bill, announced that it is preparing a retaliatory protest to be held tomorrow at 20:00 local time on Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi.

In this regard, the opponents said they would not go out to Rustaveli Avenue.

On April 17, the Georgian parliament approved the law on "foreign agents" in the first reading. The document was supported by 83 deputies, none voted against.
