The Basmanny District Court of Moscow sent Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov to a pre-trial detention center until June 23 on charges of taking a bribe in a particularly large amount. Under this article, he faces up to 15 years in prison. This was reported by Radio Liberty, according to UNN.

According to the report, FSB officers detained Ivanov the night before and took him to the Investigative Committee. Investigators believe that the deputy defense minister entered into a "criminal conspiracy with third parties," the joint press service of the courts said. Along with Ivanov, several people were detained, whom investigators believe to be involved in the transfer of money through a "complex chain of intermediaries.

One of them, Sergei Borodin, was also charged in the case of bribery of Russian Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov. Borodin was arrested for two months. Borodin was reportedly friends with Ivanov and, according to the investigation, participated in the activities of the criminal group.

The criminal case against Ivanov is related to contracting and subcontracting work for the needs of the Russian Ministry of Defense. The case file is based on witness testimony and the results of operational activities. According to rosmedia, the deputy defense minister had been under operational investigation for a long time. According to him, the criminal case is being supported by the FSB military counterintelligence.

Timur Ivanov is in charge of housing for the troops, construction and overhaul of the ministry's facilities, and military mortgages. He was also involved in the construction of the main church of the armed forces.

The Deputy Defense Minister is under sanctions from the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
