Poll: Much more Ukrainians trusted Reznikov as Minister of Defense than Umerov

According to an opinion poll, Rustem Umerov as Defense Minister is trusted by far fewer Ukrainians than Oleksiy Reznikov.

According to a poll conducted by the Sociological Group "Rating", fewer Ukrainians trust Rustem Umerov as Minister of Defense of Ukraine than trusted Oleksiy Reznikov when he held this position, UNN reports.

In February 2024, 7% of citizens fully approved of Umerov's performance, while in February 2023, trust in the minister was at 26%.

According to the poll, as of February 2024, 27% of respondents said they "rather approve" of Umerov's performance as Defense Minister, while 16% said they "rather disapprove." Twelve percent of people do not approve of him at all, and 39 percent found it difficult to answer the question.

It should be recalled that Umerov took office as Minister in September 2023. For comparison, in February of the same year, the Minister of Defense, Oleksiy Reznikov, was fully trusted by 26% and partially trusted by 36% (this is also evidenced by the data of polls conducted by the Rating Group). In June 2022, the level of trust in Reznikov was 37% ("strongly approve") and 38% ("rather approve").

In April 2022, 49% of citizens fully approved of the Minister of Defense's performance, while another 30% said they rather approved than disapproved. 30% chose the option "rather approve," and 4% chose "rather disapprove." Only 2% of respondents did not trust the Minister at all.

Methodology

The survey was conducted by the Sociological Group Rating on behalf of the Center for Analysis and Sociological Research of the International Republican Institute (IRI) throughout Ukraine (except for the occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas) on February 17-21, 2024. The method of the survey was Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) - telephone interviews using a computer, based on a random sample of mobile numbers. A total of n = 2000 residents of Ukraine aged 18 and older were interviewed. The survey data were weighted by regional (region of residence and type of settlement) and age indicators using data from the State Statistics Service of Ukraine as of January 1, 2022. The error of representativeness of the survey with a confidence level of 0.95 does not exceed ±3.5 percentage points for the full sample. The response rate is 14%.
