Biden extended for another year the sanctions regime imposed on Russia over its harmful foreign activities that undermine US security and democracy.
U.S. President Joe Biden has extended the sanctions regime against Russia for another year in connection with the Russian government's malicious activities abroad, UNN reports citing the White House.
"...the harmful foreign activities of the government of the Russian Federation - including efforts to undermine free and fair democratic elections and democratic institutions in the United States ... engaging in and facilitating malicious cyber activities against the United States and its allies and partners; promoting and using transnational corruption to influence foreign governments; engaging in extraterritorial activities targeting dissidents or journalists; undermining security in countries and regions important to the national security of the United States; and violating generally accepted principles of international law, including respect for the territorial integrity of states - continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security of the United States. For this reason... I am extending the state of emergency for 1 year," Biden said in a statement.
This notice will be published in the Federal Register and transmitted to Congress, the White House added.
