As of the beginning of April this year, Ukraine had UAH 780.3 billion in cash circulation, which is UAH 16 billion more than at the beginning of the year. The increase in cash is attributed to seasonal factors, according to the NBU, UNN reports.

Details

According to the NBU, as of April 1, 2024, there were UAH 780.3 billion in cash circulation in Ukraine, which is UAH 16 billion, or 2.1%, more than at the beginning of the year (UAH 764.4 billion as of January 1, 2024).

The increase in cash in circulation was explained by seasonal factors. Traditionally, in the first quarter of the year, in addition to moderate growth, cash that was put into circulation in previous periods is also withdrawn, the National Bank reported.

The NBU shared statistics on cash circulation as of April 1, 2024, which revealed that 2.7 billion banknotes worth UAH 773.2 billion are currently in circulation, as well as 14.6 billion ordinary and non-investment coins worth UAH 7 billion.

There were 66 banknotes and 179 banknotes and coins in circulation for every resident of Ukraine, which is slightly more than as of January 1, 2024, when there were 66 banknotes and 177 coins.

The most common banknotes in cash circulation are the 500-hryvnia and 10-kopiika coins, which account for 28.3% and 28.1% of the total. The least common banknotes are the 50-hryvnia and 10-hryvnia coins, which account for 4.6% and 1.5% of the total.

In the first quarter of 2024, the number of 1,000-hryvnia banknotes and 10-hryvnia coins grew the most, each by almost 10%.

Recall

The cash turnover of banks in Ukraine increased in 2023: cash receipts and cash disbursements in banks grew by 13.6% and 11.5%, respectively, due to the economic recovery.
