This year, for the first time, Ukraine joined the international Teens in AI hackathon, which brings together talented young people from all over the world to develop ideas on the use of artificial intelligence.
Recently, the national stage of the competition was held, where 10 teams of students presented their ideas on how artificial intelligence can contribute to creating more inclusive learning and strengthening the healthcare sector.
The projects covered a wide range of issues, from the adaptation of soldiers with PTSD to combating cyberbullying.
The ideas presented included apps for veterans with PTSD, AI sign language interpreters for teenagers with hearing impairments, and technologies to prevent cyberbullying, as well as educational programs. Some teams even demonstrated prototypes of their AI products.
Teams from all over Ukraine, from Rivne to Donetsk, took part in the competition.
The winner of the national stage was a team from Kyiv that developed an application called ConnectAbility.
This application is based on artificial intelligence and is designed to learn sign language. It can recognize and reproduce gestures of people with hearing impairments, acting as their online translator.
The ConnectAbility project is applying to participate in the international stage of the hackathon, where it will compete with teams from more than 40 countries.
