Kyiv • UNN
Due to the record high air temperature this year, lilacs bloomed unprecedentedly early in parks and streets of many Kyiv districts, indicating an unusually early spring in the capital.
Lilacs are beginning to bloom in the capital. The first flowers bloomed in particular in Vidradnyi Park in Solomianskyi district, Desnianskyi Park in Desnianskyi district, Zhmerynska Street in Sviatoshynskyi district, on the boulevard along Ivan Mykolaychuk Street in Dniprovskyi district, and in the park at 9-E Jordanska Street in Obolonskyi district. This was reported by the Department of Environmental Protection and Climate Change Adaptation KCSA, UNN reports.
"As you can see, this year Kyiv has experienced an unprecedentedly early spring. Forecasters continue to record temperature records, and the citizens enjoy the warmth. Such weather conditions contribute to the fact that many plants have bloomed in the capital earlier than usual: sakura, magnolia, and now lilacs. Let me remind you that lilacs traditionally bloom in Kyiv in late April or early May. Although forecasters predict rain, I hope this will not prevent Kyiv residents from continuing to admire the blossoms," said Oleksandr Voznyi, Director of the Department.
In addition to the Academician Fomin Botanical Garden and the M.M. Hryshko National Botanical Garden, lilacs grow in parks and squares in the capital. The duration of its flowering can vary from several weeks to several months, depending on the variety.
