During the meeting, the parties discussed the security situation in the Caucasus. Aliyev noted that Russia plays a major role in ensuring security in the region.
Regional security issues are constantly on the agenda of our meetings, and we are pleased with how they are being addressed. Russia is the key country in terms of regional security in the Caucasus and the wider geography, and a lot depends on the interaction between our countries
In addition, during the talks, Putin noted that the trade turnover between Russia and Azerbaijan exceeded $4 billion, and Russian investments in the Azerbaijani economy amounted to $6 billion.
According to him, there are a lot of prospects for Russian-Azerbaijani cooperation in the economic sector, in cooperation, in infrastructure.
The Russian President reminded that the meeting of the leaders is taking place on the eve of the 50th anniversary of the start of construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline, which was supervised by Ilham Aliyev's father Heydar Aliyev.
