russia may transfer Kalibr carriers from the black to the Caspian sea: which ones
Kyiv • UNN
Russia could move its Kalibr missile carriers from the Black Sea to the Caspian Sea to protect them from Ukrainian attacks, with Buyan-M corvettes being a possible option due to the infrastructure at the Caspian naval base.
In order to protect its Kalibr carriers from Ukrainian attacks, Russia may move them from the Black Sea to the Caspian Sea. In particular, we can talk about corvettes of the Buyan-M type. This was reported by Defence Express, UNN wrote.
Details
The publication notes that Project 21631 Buyan-M corvettes for Kalibr missiles are the type of ships for which the Russians have the appropriate infrastructure to deploy in the Caspian Sea, in particular at the Caspian naval base.
The largest Russian ships in the Caspian Sea are the Project 11661 Cheetah patrol vessels, with a hull length of 102 meters, a total displacement of 2,200 tons, and a 5.6-meter draft. However, these are significantly smaller dimensions than the Project 11356 frigates, which are the largest Kalibr missile carriers in the Black Sea - the hull length of these ships is 115 meters with a total draft of 7.5 meters and a total displacement of 4,035 tons.
Accordingly, the option of deploying Project 11356 frigates to the Caspian Sea to carry the Kalibr should be ruled out. However, as well as the option of transferring Project 636.6 Varshavyanka submarines, which can also be Kalibr carriers, they have a hull length of 73.8 meters, a total draft of 6.2 meters and a surface displacement of 2,350 tons. With such dimensions, there is a risk of running aground.

The director of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise, Oleksandr Ruvin, previously said that the institution's specialists can absolutely accurately determine the carrier from which the enemy launches Kalibr missiles at Ukraine on a given day.
According to him, this is necessary so that Ukrainian law enforcement officers can serve a notice of suspicion to the commander who gave the criminal order to launch missiles at Ukraine.
"The occupiers are attacking with Kalibr less and less, because our defenders have cleared the Black Sea of Russian boats. By the way, our experts can determine exactly where the missile was fired from - from a ship or submarine, as well as calculate which vessel and under what command. This is so that law enforcement agencies know exactly who to notify of suspicion," Ruvin said.
