Russia has falsely accused Ukraine and the West of involvement in the terrorist attack on the Russian shopping center Crocus, using the tragedy to justify its illegal war against Ukraine, a US State Department spokesman said.

The United States excludes any involvement of Ukraine and Western countries in the terrorist attack in the Russian Crocus City. Russian officials are using the tragedy to try to justify the illegal war against Ukraine. This was stated by US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller, UNN reports.

Details

I have seen these comments, as well as comments by President Putin, as well as comments by others who claimed that any country was behind this terrorist attack. And I think it's clear that these statements are categorically false. I think the Russian government knows that these statements are categorically false. Ukraine was not behind these attacks. The United Kingdom was not behind these attacks. The United States was not behind these attacks

- said Miller.

He also recalled that the United States had warned Russia in advance of the possibility of these attacks. According to Miller, the United States  wanted to see if the attacks could be averted and, ultimately, prevent the loss of life.

The State Department spokesperson also called the statements of many Kremlin officials  about Ukraine's involvement "irresponsible and cynical."

"This is just another example of President Putin and the rest of his team using a national tragedy to try to justify an illegal war against Ukraine," Miller concluded.
