The G7 countries do not plan to unfreeze russian assets and are working on how to use them to help Ukraine. A plan to compensate Kyiv with frozen russian funds will be presented at the summit in Italy in June.

The G7 countries will not unfreeze russian assets, but they have not yet been able to agree on how to use them, in particular to help Ukraine. This is stated in a joint statement by G7 ministers and central bankers, UNN reports.

In a joint statement issued after the meeting, the G7 finance ministers promised to continue working on "all possible ways" to use frozen russian assets to help Ukraine.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said that the U.S. and G7 allies are exploring ways to unlock nearly $300 billion in frozen russian assets to help Ukraine. In particular, options such as using the assets as collateral or confiscating interest income are being considered.
