Germany detained two Russian agents of German-Russian origin who were planning sabotage operations against military infrastructure to undermine support for Ukraine.

Two spies who worked for Russia's intelligence services and wanted to organize sabotage at military infrastructure facilities to undermine support for Ukraine have been detained in Bavaria. This was reported by Spiegel, according to UNN.

Details

Federal Prosecutor General Jens Rommel has arrested two suspects who were planning sabotage operations in Germany on behalf of the Russian secret service. As the publication has learned, the police detained the suspects in Bayreuth.

It is noted that the main suspect was a 39-year-old Russian of German descent, Dieter S. from Bavaria. The Federal Prosecutor's Office accuses him of acting as a secret service agent for sabotage purposes at military facilities.

Investigators are convinced that since October 2023, Dieter S. has been in contact with Russian special services regarding sabotage operations in Germany. They claim that he agreed to carry out arson attacks and bombings of military infrastructure, weapons factories and industrial facilities.

The focus was, in particular, on transportation routes used to transport military supplies. The purpose of the planned attacks was to undermine German support for Ukraine,

- the message says.

It is believed that Dieter S.'s accomplice was 37-year-old Alexander Y., also of Russian-German descent, whom the federal prosecutor's office accuses of being a Russian intelligence agent.

According to the newspaper, one of the facilities the detainees were spying on is located in Grafenwoehr, Bavaria. There is, among other things, an important military training ground where the US Army trains the Ukrainian military, for example, on Abrams main battle tanks.

Recall

Austria faced one of the biggest espionage scandals in decades due to the arrest of a former intelligence officer who revealed evidence of extensive Russian infiltration and lack of control by the official authorities.
