Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonite said that Western military instructors could go to Ukraine to train Ukrainian soldiers if proper air defense is provided, and that experts could help with cybersecurity, demining, and border protection.

Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonite is convinced that Western military instructors could go to Ukraine to train Ukrainian soldiers, provided that proper air defense is provided. She said this at a joint press conference with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal in Vilnius on Friday, LRT reports, according to UNN.

Details

Šimonytė noted that Lithuanian military instructors are currently training Ukrainian soldiers in Lithuania and other countries.

Could they be trained in Ukraine? With proper air defense, these risks can certainly be managed,

- the Prime Minister said.

She also added that specialists could be sent to Ukraine to help Kyiv with cybersecurity, demining, and border protection.

According to Šimonite, French President Emmanuel Macron's words about the possible deployment of troops to Ukraine were perceived by some as an invitation for Western troops to take part in the fighting.

There are different forms of assistance or ways to engage. I think what President Macron said, and this is key, is that we should not draw red lines for ourselves when on the other side we have a man who has no red lines and who has a nuclear threat and waves it around every other day,

- said the head of the Lithuanian government.

Recall

Speaking about the West's support for Ukraine, Macron said in late February that he did not rule out the possibility of sending allied troops to Ukraine in the future.
