Details
Today I met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Switzerland to Ukraine Felix Baumann. This is our first personal meeting, so I told him about the updated work of our institution, as well as the main directions of its activities. During the meeting, we discussed areas of further cooperation with Switzerland to more effectively protect human rights in Ukraine. I emphasized that we cooperate with many international organizations in the field of human rights protection, but this is not enough to overcome the challenges of today
He also told Bauman about the facts of russia's violation of international humanitarian law, the forced deportation of Ukrainian citizens, including children, by the aggressor country, the current mechanisms for their return, and the problematic aspects that arise in this area.
Lubinets also thanked Switzerland for supporting the fourth point of the Ukrainian Formula for Peace, participation in the International Coalition of Countries for the Return of Ukrainian Children and the International Platform for the Release of Civilians Illegally Detained by the russian federation.
We are constantly looking for new ways to bring every Ukrainian home. I hope that fruitful cooperation will help us achieve this goal
Recall
Lubinets recently reported that since the beginning of russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2014 , russia has been illegally detaining Ukrainian civilians without evidence for 10 years and has not provided any information about them, in violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Convention.
According to Lubinets, russia is not releasing illegally detained Ukrainian civiliansbecause they may witness its atrocities in the occupied territories.
The Ombudsman also noted that Ukraine is working to have a patron state to negotiate the release of civilian prisoners illegally held by russia, which would allow diplomats from that country to have physical access to detained Ukrainians and ensure their rights.
